ART 121 - Foundations of Drawing

September 7, 2024; Sketch paper, Faber-Castell® Graphite Sketch Set

For this project, I had to pick four random objects from around my living space and form a still-life picture out of them, which I would then have to replicate in a drawing as best I could.

The objects I used were the following:

  • A PAC-MAN ghost stress doll
  • A silver GameCube, with the Game Boy Player peripheral attached
  • A bottle of gummy vitamins
  • A 1:400 model of the Powerpuff Girls-livery N310DA Boeing 737-232 Delta Express plane

It’s all meant to symbolize how we can still enjoy things from our childhood even in our adulthood. It can also help us to explore more wonders of the world, symbolized by the plane.

The method I employed to replicating the photo was to first set up a bunch of faint squares that defined the boundaries of the objects. I would then make dots (and lines if the angle allowed it), and rely heavily on a ruler, to pinpoint where the pencil should go. While this process is time-consuming, it ensures a sense of quality.
